Divvy

THE PURPOSE

CONTEXT
Divvy is a music sharing app created to eliminate the hassle of cross-platform music distribution. It streamlines and simplifies music sharing, eliminating the necessity of recreating playlists, to enhance the seamless transfer and enjoyment of musical content among users. With Divvy, sharing/discovering new music is effortless.
OBJECTIVE
My objective was to design a digital solution to music sharing across different platforms. Through user research, I discovered ways to share music with friends using different streaming services. My team and I went through the design thinking process to create an apo that revolves around our users needs/wants.
DURATION
3 weeks
MY ROLE
User interviews, Product design, style guide, design systems, content organization
TOOLS USED
Figma, Google Workspace, Trello, Indesign, FigJam
THE TEAM
Worked alongside 3 UX/UI designers.

TARGET AUDIENCE

To align with our target audience, I began by crafting a proto-persona. This persona was developed to gain insight into the preferences and needs of a typical user searching for a music-sharing app.

METHODOLOGIES

Understanding our problem areas through user research.

In order to understand the challenges associated with music sharing, we conducted interviews with individuals from diverse backgrounds, interests, and platform preferences. I personally interviewed five individuals to uncover their frustrations, motivations, and general behaviors concerning their daily music listening and sharing routines.

GUIDING OBJECTIVES

01

How do users typically share their music with friends with different platforms?

02

What is most important to users when they share their music? Why?

03

What are the motivations behind sharing music with others? Why?

04

What are the main pain points users typically face when sharing their music?

INSIGHTS

Following user interviews, I sorted my insights in order to categorize where the biggest challenges in the current user experiences were.

1) Music sharing across different platforms

2) Tedious process

3) Discovering new music is a tedious process

PROBLEM SOLVING

THE NEED
We need to develop a solution that streamlines and simplifies music sharing, eliminating the necessity of recreating playlists, to enhance the seamless transfer and enjoyment of musical content among users.
HOW MIGHT WE?
How might we streamline and simplify the process of sharing music with others, eliminating the need for recreating entire playlists and thereby enhancing the seamless transfer and enjoyment of musical content among users?
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Divvy is aimed at simplifying the process of sharing music for others with different streaming platforms. We have observed that users often encounter frustration and inconvenience when trying to share music with friends who use different streaming platforms. How might we streamline and simplify the process of sharing music with others, eliminating the need for recreating entire playlists and thereby enhancing the seamless transfer and enjoyment of musical content among users?

FEATURE PRIORITIZATION

Upon identifying the primary challenges users encounter, I organized statements gathered from our initial user interviews to align our main focus points for the subsequent steps.
AREAS OF EMPHASIS

1) Quick and easy transfer process

2) Intuitive and quick cross-platform sharing capabilities

3) Use user engagement to promote the discovery of new music

MARKET RESEARCH

Prior to the prototyping phase, it was essential to explore the current landscape of the music sharing market. To gain insights into potential areas of differentiation, I conducted a competitive analysis.

SIGNIFICANT TRENDS

There is a big market for users who are trying to switch their main platforms. Most apps help to transfer entire music libraries.

Lack of ease when understanding how to use main features for the first time. Crowded screens and complicated directions.

Have to pay for subscription to use full app capabilities.

Pain points that users face with these apps is the inaccuracy of song transfer. Often missing or duplicate songs post-transfer.

VALUE PROPOSITION

Our platform enhances the way you connect with music, providing a user-friendly interface and innovative features that make sharing and discovering music a breeze.

EARLY DESIGN PROCESS

During the ideation and problem-solving phase, we gained clarity on the developmental direction we envisioned for Divvy. This initiated our early design stage, marked by the crafting of paper prototypes.

STYLE GUIDE

Our goal was to encapsulate the IOS feel with Spotify/Apple Music, which we found were our main users' streamlining platforms through our user tests. Through our style guide we were able to establish consistency, coherence, and professionalism across various aspects of our brand.

USABILITY TESTING IMPROVEMENTS

The user testing conducted on our high-fidelity prototype provided valuable insights on areas for improvement and ideas for future development steps. The most significant enhancement made during this phase was the incorporation of a step-by-step tutorial for first-time users. While simplicity remained our primary objective for Divvy, we prioritized ensuring seamless usability to minimize frustration.

1) Add brand aesthetics

2) Add a step-by-step tutorial for users

a) Add arrows to indicate the different features do within the app

NEXT STEPS

Enhanced AI capabilities

Create extensions for multiple devices

Adding more niche streamlining platforms to make it more accessible

Making an extension so that you can receive playlists
